Big Heads May Soon Get a Bell Helmet

LOS GATOS, CA. The Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute is applauding Bell Sports for its decision to produce a helmet for big heads. The helmet will fit people with head sizes up to 8 1/4. "We congratulate Bell on the decision, made in the almost certain knowledge that the helmet will never make them any money. This is a public service undertaking, and one that we have been promoting for a long time without finding a manufacturer who wanted to pony up," Randy Swart wrote in the institute's newsletter. The institute has received letters from consumers complaining that extra large helmets now on the market often fit poorly leaving them unprotected. The helmet will be available in September 1997. It will retail for $30
